THE TREASURE HUNT:
College can be tiring and boring unless brain-storming classes get support of various refreshing activities every week. Especially for students, such activities can open new opportunities to explore their hidden talents.
In this section one such activity will be discussed which can be organized for students to test their mental and physical fitness to get success in this event.
The name of the event is "Treasure Hunt" and the main theme is "Winner takes all". Yes the winner or winning team will get the final reward so all participants will focus on first position only.
The layout of treasure hunt is given below:
The stages are discussed in detail below:
START: The final 3 teams will gather at one location
where they will get slip for location of STAGE 1 puzzles. The teams will get
chance to take a slip on basis of either a coin toss or similar activity. Once
each team has their slip, the treasure hunt will begin. Each slip will guide
individual teams to a particular location. Locations will be in the form of
puzzles, songs or hints etc.
STAGE 1: Each team will run to solve puzzle in their
slips to locate the STAGE 1 puzzle. After reaching stage 1 location, each team
will find an envelope containing location of stage 2 (in form of a puzzle, hint
or song). Stage 2 in our case was conducted indoor so teams must reach their
destination rooms for stage 2.
STAGE 2: Once teams solve stage 2 puzzle, they will move
to their respective rooms for stage 3. After reaching their mentioned rooms, teams
will be given some physical tasks (like 20 push-ups) in order to win their
puzzle. Until this physical task is completed, teams won’t be able to get their
puzzles. Once physical task is done, teams will get hints to move to stage 3.
In our case hints were clues of location where teams would get a part of stage
3 puzzles. So after stage 2, teams will have to run to get these puzzle parts.
STAGE 3: Stage 3 is organized in a common room with 3
different puzzles. After getting clues in stage 2, teams will go to a
particular location where they will get parts of puzzle as well as hint of
location (in form of puzzles 7, 8, 9) of STAGE 3. Teams will have to get to
this common location along with parts of puzzle (in our case it is a JIGSAW
puzzle). On reaching the common room, teams will solve the puzzle and the first
team to do so will be the winner.
STOP: the first team to complete STAGE 3 puzzle will
be the winner and will get the final TREASURE (in our case it was PRIZE and
CERTIFICATE). Since all the teams cannot get prizes, so in the final stage 3
all teams were given refreshments as token of appreciation for their efforts.
A TREASURE HUNT event has been successfully conducted at college level by students of Electrical Engineering, HSET, SRHU, Dehradun. A total of 20 teams (each with 4 students) were registered for this event out of which 3 final teams were selected after conducting a preliminary round a day before final event. The puzzles were designed as per the campus infrastructure so that students could explore majority of HSET campus. A few pictures of this event are given below:
Hope this post will help students as well as faculties to organize such an event in their schools or colleges.
Best wishes.
