SCOPE OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING IN INDIA

SCOPE OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING IN INDIA

What is Electrical Engineering?

The professional courses like B. Tech./ B.E./Diploma which involves branches like Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Power System Engineering etc. cover various aspects (both theory and practical) of Electrical engineering. From basics of Voltage, Current to advance system protection, Electrical engineering covers a wide area of technology that surrounds us.

Who can do Electrical Engineering??

Each course has its own pre-requisites for admission of students. Electrical engineering attracts young minds interested in pursuing a career in Core sector in India (with interest in Physics and Mathematics). Range of qualifying marks may vary from course to course.

Scope after Diploma in Electrical Engineering:

As a diploma fresher, a student has the following job opportunities:
  • In Government jobs as Junior Engineer. (Through State exam , SSC or other such entrance exam)
  • In PSU’s looking for diploma freshers in Electrical Engineering.
  • In Defense Services on various posts.
  • In Private industries on various areas (like Production, maintenance, quality control etc.).
  • In various Universities/colleges as Lab in-charge or Lab technician.
  • As a freelancer in core electrical engineering works.

And many more multi-disciplinary job opportunities are present in India today for Diploma Electrical fresher students.

Scope after Degree in Electrical Engineering:

After completing graduation, the students can select from various opportunities as per their interest:
  • Prepare for UPSC exams (for prestigious IAS, IES) after graduation.
  • Prepare for Government sector jobs (Core jobs through PSC, SSC, entrance exam or through GATE exam).
  • In Defense Services on various posts.
  • Pursue Private industry jobs (in departments like Production, Maintenance, Quality control, Management, Research & Development etc.)
  • Pursue higher studies like M.E., M.Tech. or even MBA as per their interest.
  • Start job as a lecturer in Polytechnic colleges (both Government as well as Private).
  • Start coaching classes for students.
  • Initiate Startup in their core area or area of their interest (like electrical appliances, electrical works, projects etc).
  • Carry on with their family business (if any).
  • Work as a Consultant in field of electrical Engineering.

The main issue:

The main issue in India for engineering students is to decide what they want to do with their engineering degree/diploma and weather they are ready to build themselves accordingly during their course. Majority of students opt for engineering without much homework and they seldom take pain to create skills in them along with good marks. Also the craze of job security in Government jobs drive majority of fresher engineers to devote their time to competitive exam preparation without even thinking if they really want it. Also in the mean time they are unable to see various opportunities in different fields which are suitable for them. So engineering as a whole can never be out of demand because we live in a world of technology and whatever engineering stream we name, if interested student give their efforts there is a whole world of opportunities waiting for them after graduation.

Conclusion:

If you have decided to pursue engineering in stream of Electrical Engineering, than key points are:

JOBS: Government, Private, Startup, Industries, Research, Higher studies, teaching, consultancy etc.

FUTURE: Future is very bright as energy will never be out of demand and as an electrical engineer, there will always be scope of work in various areas like Electrical Vehicles, Renewable energy, Automation, Electrical wiring, Machine troubleshooting, Control system and many more.

REQUIREMENT: The main requirement of today’s engineering fields is that student must have good theoretical concepts of their respective field, must have practical skills to tackle real world problems and must be motivated to learn new trends.

At last it is essential to state that Students must understand scope of their Engineering stream so that they can be mentally prepared from day one of their college to groom themselves as per current needs of industries and technology.

“No target is far from you, if you know what you are aiming for”.
